that really depends on the source of the email. if you signed up for emails from a site, either to get something free or enter a sweepstakes, et al., they are generally quite good about honoring their privacy policy and removing you from lists. if you dont know where an email is coming from then, yes, you could end up in that trap. youre better off just deleting it.

personally, i dont remove myself from lists until im regularly sent emails from the same place. the occasional nonsense just gets deleted.
