Need a Forum setup i can download

Does anyone know where i can find a site with a forum thing like the one here at OTS or similar to it for my site???

You might wanna give Ikonboard (http://www.ikondiscussion.com/ikonboard/) a try ... it's cheap and it's a fairly good ripoff of the UBB script (hehehe). And best of all, it's free! (hmmm, didn't I just say cheap before? Never mind that, it's free!)

It's the same script that DemonBob is using for his site, System Overload (http://newconclave.virtualave.net/index.html). Check it out here (http://www.ikondiscussion.com/ikonboard/).

Uh bob im still haavin truble im not sure what to do at all (lol) i unziped the files from the zip file so now what do i do?? THis is alot haaarder ten i thught it would be its harder even then when i put te othewr stuff on my site that im building even harder then setting the frames up man this sucks lol

Im using a server called anzwers its here at http://anzwers.org/ and i unziped the files from the zip file into a folder on my harddrive............. http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/frown.gif

Firts off....do they support cgi files......? YOu need that first to get the ikonboard to work.

d00d. Ok heres the deal... I did a lilttle check on your sever....and it does not mete the requirmentd to run Ikonboard. Or even support it.

1. ftp program
2. cgi supoport

My suggestion would be to get a accout wwith hypermart (http://www.hypermart.net) or virtualave (http://www.virtualave.net)

And you would need to d/l cuteftp...

Will 50 megs be enuff to cover it all?? i mean...... hey canis how much space is your forum here taking up?? oh and on ikonboard is it iek this?? i mean can i use like what ever "avatars" i want?? or do i have to use ones that come with it..... or what??

So many questions, so little time :)

1.) If you think you're gonna have a very popular forum, 50 Megs is not enough. You need at least 150MB or more if you think you're gonna have lots of users. Then again, if you're just starting up a forum and you don't have more than 50 users, 50MB is plenty.

2.) Right now, the OTS Forums consume about 90MB, and these forums are not even very popular yet.

3.) Ikonboard is a UBB knockoff, but although it uses the same structure as UBB, it is still a bit different in appearance.

4.) I don't really use Ikonboard, but I think you can specify your own avatars if you don't like the avatar list that comes with it.

Make sure that you have a basic knowledge on how the forums should work. It's not as simple as HTML, and it takes a big amount of customization just to make Ikonboard look good - you can even ask DemonBob.

aight canis thast cool so my site wont get any good till alot later probablly and so ill just use one of the places bob mentioned untill it starts to take up ALOT of room then switch to a bigger site if i can find one :)

Hmmmmmm...... I really don't know. Can you use someone elses? Like a close friend...all they really send you is junk mail...And a reminder of your password, and user name. Thats about it...


I might have an account lieing around here somewhere that you can use....if you want....

You might want to try to find your own first though.
