Information Week (http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20010608S0007) reports:

PALO ALTO, Calif.--Two popular but struggling Internet service providers, NetZero Inc. and Juno Online Services Inc., said they would merge to form a new company called United Online, expected to be the second biggest U.S. ISP after AOL Time Warner Inc.'s America Online.

The merger came in an effort to reduce costs & shift users to a fee based service. The merge should be complete by the end of the year. More here (http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20010608S0007).

Companies merging either to stave off bankruptcy or join in on competing with the big boys... Internet companies are slowly funneling to a state contrary to diversification ... instead of having more businesses, we're having fewer...

Who knows when this amoeba effect will stop....

Most of the companies that are out to make money are dropping like flies. Ebay's one of the few actually making money.

People are realizing that ads alone will not fund a site, and shutting down. The effect will probably stop when the companies that are looking to the internet for profit and to get rich quick die out.

The internet is slowly collapsing in on itself.
