K, I wanna disable my firewall. I am running windows 2000. I need to disable it because I cant seem to play an online game by the name of Command and Conquer Renegade. It has happened before and I had to disable the firewall except back then I was running Windows XP. What happens is when I go online and go to game servers none come up. Usually it is crowded. Please help me!! Thank you in advance.

Are you running a software firewall or a harware firewall (one that in integrated into the router)?

If hardware, then open your browser and type 192.168.0.1 and then enter your routers user and password (check manufacturer defaults if you dont know what this is Netgear= admin and password). Then click on the firewall settings and disable.

If it is a software wall, then just open the app and tell it to disable the firewall.

not a good idea to completely disable it, although that might be necessary on occasion.
allow that program and/or the ports it uses (the website will have them listed somewhere) full access, incoming and outgoing, all types of packets. that should work, if it doesnt, try disabling it completely.

Yeah, redwech has a point. It would be better for you to find the port that the games use and then open port-forwarding only for that port to only one computer. You still use the same menus to enable portforwarding.

Oh, umm, I dont think I understand any of what anyone just said. Im only 13 afterall. K, the firewall isnt its own program, its in the router, so I would say its a hardware one. On XP I went to control panel then network connections then disabled it. But on 2000 its different.

How do I find out my router password and stuff like dat??

if your parents set it up, theyll have it. if you did, its on the defaults, which should be listed in the manual somewhere. youll need to set the router to allow all packets incoming and outgoing on the ports used in the game. its really best if you read the manual, but the instructions arturo gave should do it.

A guy came in and put it in as we were having problems with it.
