hearts is messin up

hey my friend is havin a problem with his windows Hearts game. He has windows 98. His problem is, when he pulls up the game, before it gets to the options screen where you choose your name, it locks up. He says he has to goto the task manager and close the process "winserv", or somethin pretty close to that. after he closes that down, he is able to click the hearts game on the start manu button area thingy, and it works.
any suggestions?
