My computer says that I have no sound card. I was reading the responces to other peoples questions and they all say update the drivers. How do I do that?

To update drivers, go to the website of the manufacturer of your soundcard, download new drivers, and install them. You install them by going into Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> System >> Hardware and clicking on Device Manager. Select your sound card from the list of hardware in the Device Manager and find the 'update drivers' button.
If your computer is telling you that you have no sound card... Are you certain you HAVE a sound card?
Does your computer make sounds (other than system beeps and such)?
What kind of computer do you have? Have you installed a sound card? It will be easier to figure out why your computer tells you that you have no sound card if you can answer these questions.

I have a H.P computer and the sound was working for 3 years than I noticed that it didn't work. Yes I definatly have a sound card.

My computer makes no sounds other than beeps. Also, how do I know what company makes the card, it doesn't say. The card came with the computer.

Go into Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> System >> Hardware and clicking on Device Manager. Select your sound card from the list of hardware in the Device Manager. Tell us what it says your sound card is.

Once I got to device manager, and then sound, I could not find anything that talked about a sound card (I know I have one). What should I be looking for?

Check all the different parts of Device Manager, if windows doesn't know its a sound card, it usually sticks it into some misc. category.

I believe you stated earlier that your sound card came with the computer when you bought it. One way to know what kind of sound card you have is to go to the hp website and do a search on the computer model you have. Often times, they will list the complete specs of the entire computer. I hope this helps some. You may also find me @ waw9667 on aol messenger regarding this topic. Good luck !
