Well, since there's a best thread, I think we should do a worst now. I'll go first.
The 5 worst PC RPG's I've Ever Played, in no particular order:
Dungeon Siege (Surprisingly, I didn't like it)
Might and Magic IX
Return To Krondor
Planescape: Torment
Tribunal

I'm not sure if I can put a top 5, cause I tend to forget about games that sucked, but I'll add FF8 and Kingdom Hearts in there.

I don't think I ever played a truly bad RPG - if the premise isn't good, I don't buy it, hence I don't play it ... I'm a sucker for a good story ;) but here's a few of my mistakes:
- Revenant
- the Hellfire expansion for Diablo 1
- Planescape: Torment bored me so much in the beginning that I haven't finished it yet, so maybe it doesn't belong in this list ... yet.
Aside from that, I can't remember any RPG I played that truly sucked :)

I'm tempted to put ffX down here since i played it for a few hours and utterly hated it (especially the ability wall or whatever it was), but I think if i played it for longer i'd have learned to like it.
My favorite FF is a tie between VII and IX

Morrowind(if you can even call it a game). My god, what a toilet clog.

1. FF8 ( didn't like the magic system/story)
2. Vampire: The Masquerade (pick anything, although the multiplay with a dm is very interesting)
3. Morrowind ( great game, but story is lost through the non-linear play)
4. Baulder's Gate I ( II is great, but BGI took so freak'n long to start out, let alone survive the 1st few stages, you'd be lucky if your first character lived to get to the next stage)

I'll agree with BG1.

Compared to pretty much any other FF game, FF8 was junk. Crappy pacing, annoying characters at best, an absolutely ugly world, and annoying gameplay mechanics that take micromanagement to the next level. I've seen student plays in junior high that had better pacing and writing than FF8.
As for kingdom hearts, that's a little unfair, I probably would've liked the game if not for a few things that annoyed me so much I had to stop playing.

What is up with the anti-morrowind vibe around here? Such a swell game, a pioneer. It entertained me a great wealth, but I say: every one to one's self!
Dungeon Siege was quite sad, though Superman 64 was twice as bad. Zelda was a trip through hell, so I didn't finish it, I was uncompelled.

A pioneer in no less than in the coming wave of open-endedness.

I would have expected harsher from you Null, even against my Planescape. :D
I also agree with BG1 being horrible. I didn't play 2 for very long because I got fed up with it, but I did enjoy it quite often. I really wasn't too fond of Icewind Dale, probably because in one dungeon my game bugged and I couldn't get a certain key, I can't remember. I liked Morrowind for the most part. Didn't care all that much for FF8. I liked Vampire! Another RPG on my RPG hitlist was Betrayal In Antara.

Vampire was awesome! Granted the guns could get a little wacky at times, but over all I thought it was pretty awesome. Aren't they making a second one? I remember there being a cover art for it on a PC Gamer a while ago.
I liked BG1. BG2 blows it away however. But I liked the BG1 story quite a bit, what with the dopplegangers and all.

Pfffff. Open ended games aren't a coming wave, they are a tchotchke. And regardless of that, Morrowind was still a damn poor example. The NPCs were all generic, and the story was poorly delivered. The game had plenty of potential, and managed to ruin it all.

got to say it, ff8 was good, you had really jump in to it, each ff game was a little different from the last and i think thats what makes it such a good series along with the stories who said they weree tempted to put ffx in there, what a wicked game, should of stuck with it.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption was an awesome game. Great story and delivery. Few technical problems with the control scheme and camera, but aside from that a worthy RPG. And it was about vampires, always a plus. Good to get away from the cookie cutter RPGs.
But for the most part I'm going to have to agree with Lito, I haven't really played any bad ones, except Morrowind, but that's borderline RPG. More like playing Everquest on an empty server than anything else. Only -dare I say it- the combat and character models/animations are worse.

Yes they are, but if my mind serves me correctly, it's going to work more like a FPS than RPG. But I agree, Vampire was a damn awesome game. When I first bought it, my video card wasn't compatible, so on the opening battle the game would constantly crash. I had to wait another 6 months before I saved up to by a new video card. I was happy with the game. The only real parts I hated were fighting the Golem and Josef's Tunnels. The Nosferatu were extremely annoying when they went invisible.

If its an RPG, I don't like it.
Unless you count Hitman and Hitman 2 cause those were sweet.

Awww...BG1 was too hard for you? Maybe you should try a simple game. Try...umm...Minesweeper. Just because there is real character development doesn't make it bad. And how could one like BG2 more than BG1? It's just more of the same good stuff! It's even the same pacing in the beginning.
As far as Deus Ex, that game is just hard to categorize overall. It's not quite a roleplaying game, but it's much more than any FPS. BUT, if you want to call it an RPG, then it's definately not a bad one.
#1 bad RPG...Prine of Qin. Not widely known, and for good reason.
Legend of Legaia (no ones heard of )
i have i love the game, also got the sequal havnt played yet though

Jeez, i'm really surprised that Gungeon Siege is on anyone's list of worst RPGs. Story was good enough and it had great visuals and music in it. C'mon and give it a break. Morrowind though is another case, i tried it for 5 mins and hated it totally!FF8 wasnt as bad as people say it is, though its card game bordered on being absolutely tedious. It just wasnt as fun as FFVii

I never could get into any of the FF games, so in my opinion, whichever ones I've played out of the series have sucked.

morrowind stressed me out. it took me 2 days to decide on the character i wanted. then i found out you get the lock power in like 6 hours of playing. so i redid it all. gave up by the time i got to the second city. that and no matter what my fps seemed to suck. (on a 9600 pro)

Hah..
Inindo for SNES. Worst RPG of ALL TIME.
I already posted this in the worst game of all time thread (which I started, methinks). There was no real positive aspect to the game. The music and sound effects were terrible. The graphics were terrible. Your little chracter thing was the size of a house. The worst part, however, was the battling. It was pretty generic, but the one thing that got me was Tofumaru.
Tofumaru.
This douche had pretty much NO involvement in the plot whatsoever. He was some dude. He attacked your character ANYWHERE. I got attacked IN THE WEAPONS SHOP. IN THE MENU. I went to buy a weapon, and all of a sudden, it cuts to the ass saying "I'm going to beat you up! And steal your money!"
Great.
Enter the fight.
He's at level 36 bajillion. You're maybe at...3. He attacks. Boom! 99 damage. You attack. Miss. 1 damage. Awesome. You'd die in about 10 seconds. Game over. Start over. Rinse. Repeat.
What a hunk of crap.
EDIT: edited for crappy spelling errors. Also, Return to Krondor wasn't a bad game at all. It's just old. Surprised someone else has played that game. Played Betrayl at Antara??

Sorry, but that sounds like the best RPG ever devised to me. Constant hilarity. Attacked in the weapons shop while in the menus..Ahaha. Seriously thats inspired comedy.

It was funny, but it was just an awful game.
It really was a god-awful game.
There isn't much more to say.
You couldn't walk around on the world map, either. It would turn night, and your character would fall asleep. Guess what happens?
"I"m going to beat you up! And steal your money!"
what was wrong with FF8 ? I loved it :D
