Axis and Allies

Is anyone here familiar with Axis and Allies? I played it alot when I was in Junior High and High School and heard that it came out as a computer game a few years ago. I never got it because I didn't have a computer and I heard it was full of bugs. Now that I'm going to build one I was looking for a later version of the game but they no longer make it. What happened? Why did they make such a crappy bug filled version of the game in the first place and why don't they make a decent version now? It seemed like there was a pretty large following.

I had the PC version and it was buggy. There were a few patches put out for it but they didn't resolve all of the issues. You can still find used copies out there on places like eBay and half.com but will end up paying pretty high for them.
