improving computer performance

my computer started up fast but after using it for some time (maybe months or years) it starts slowing down.
pls what do i do.

assuming youre running a normal windows system, do any of the following you do not normally do:
run scandisk, defrag, cleanup
update your windows; acquire/update antiviral, firewall, antispyware software
run a couple each anti virus and spyware programs
if a lot of changes were made, rerun the scandisk and defrag.

there are other things to do, but they are geared more towards your individual usage.
