virus on my comp, can't get rid of it

I have a download.trojan on my computer and can not get rid of it. I have tried to get rid of it with Nortons antivirus 2002 and have also tried to reformat my hard drive. Both options have failed me. HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did another virus scan and came up with ZERO infected files. Is it common for a download.trojan to just disappear after being on a computer for say a week ( I think it was here for about a week) and then just go away??

Reformatting and Anti Virus where of no help? Could you be more specific as to your OS, how your are going about formating, and if you are connected to the internet during the reinstall of the OS before a firewall is up.
