OTS Game Server - what games do you like?

Okay, let's say OTS decides to put up a game server next year, what game would you like to play on it? Since it would only be possible to put up one server, it would help to know what the popular concensus would be :)

If the game you like isn't one of the choices, please tell us which game you'd prefer... Again, this is just a plan that we'll have to consider in the future, but it's good to be prepared :)

i both like AvP2 and R2CW but i liked Halo PC (need i say more?) much better so my vote went to others.

If it was next year, I would say UT2K4 and Half-Life 2.

well if it were to be an ots server, i would likely only play on it to play with everyone else here, and not because its "THE" game im playing at said time. but i really hate couterstrike and the people who play it (im always a cheater :( ).

i would play on the server to play with the people here, so id want a (not-so-demanding) game that everyone could join in on.

i guess whatever rts is hot at the time, though quake 3 is still a very playable classic.

i would love a ventrilo (.com) server with it

Oddly enough, I voted Neverwinter Nights, despite really not liking that game. I just think it would be interesting to have a private server with something other than an FPS.

I think we should look around to our other gaming buds (TG comes to mind)and their sites, organize a team around whats currently hot to play, and try to get good enough at what they are playing to challenge them to something on our server...

We could call our team the OTS OPENERS and wear bowling shirts while we game with each other online. sounds like a real hoot. We could engage the world rankings and play with the big boys and maybe, just maybe, someday we could be numero uno, #1, the top banana in whatever team sport we chose. Certainly any of those on the list.

My vote goes for BF1942, though I've been getting a lot of play on RtCW Enemy Territory lately. Being that its free and all that might draw more of our community.

Then again BFVietnam should be out next year, and that is looking pretty cool.

bf1942's maps are so freaking huge. It requires too many people on at once to make a good game. Besides, it'd take a monster server to run it. But it could work... NWN is a much more social game though and equally enjoyable, which is why it gets my vote. Nothing beats a party dungeon crawl.

By the way, this isn't a server that I'll be running on my own connection ... like our web site, this will be hosted on a commercial game server...

So far I'm trying out Quake 3 coz it's the cheapest (no, I ain't that good a rocket whore ... just ask TotalRecall, hehe) ... BF1942 is a little too expensive to get enough players to make it enjoyable... besides, Null Actor already has his own BF1942 server, if I'm not mistaken, maybe you can leech off him instead, hehe...

I might try NWN, but I get the feeling it might get boring with time... then again, once the new games like HL2 or Doom3 come out, I'll be changing over to those...

Counterstrike is a little too dated - ironic that it still got the most votes ... that leaves UT2003, which is also cheap to maintain along with Quake3 or RTCW... basically, anything that uses the Q3 engine seems to be cheaper ... maximum might be 16-18 players... and the game server will support Ventrilo for VoIP chats ;)

I would have to agree that it would be refreshing to play a private server that doesn't just have FPS ...

Continuum is out of the question since it requires a Windows server ... maybe when the Linux server port is finished I can host that one off the OTS.Net server...

Anyway, something to think about during the holidays :D

I'm much more in favor of some type of role-playing game. As much as I lobbied against NWN in the past, I would be willing to give it another chance in support of an OTS game server.

Actually, that's not a bad idea ... a persistent world in NWN would be great, as well as rotating modules every week or every month... since it's gonna be a private server, we can do away with lamers easily :D

I am itching to buy the Underdark expansion ... just dunno how many people have bought or actually still like to play the game...

I haven't bought any iteration of NWN, but I would certainly be willing to for the sake of an OTS NWN server.

BF1942 can get up to $100/mo or more for 14 players, and as I said you need more players than that to make the maps marginally enjoyable to play ... essentially it's cheaper hosted on a personal high speed connection rather than on a commercial game server...

Because I'll be switching to dedicated and downsizing/removing some of my other hosted sites (from my own business, don't worry), I got some left over per month to host a game server, but it can't be more than $40-$50 a month additional ... it's all coming out of my pocket, after all :D
