Hello. my compter was recently formatted. since i had lost my boot disk, i had to borrow a friends. I have a HP pavilion 6535 and she had something that looked similiar. anyway, after i reinstalled all the drivers, i installed the sound driver. The only things i can hear now are little sounds.. the default windows sounds or whatever. I then tried to play a midi file but nothing happened. I thought that downloading windows media player 7.x would help but when I play a song, the little music bar slides but there still isn't any music. (I have win98SE)Before I formatted my music was fine, so I know I shouldn't have to buy anything extra. If anyone knows how I can fix this, I'd really appreaciate it. Also- is it possible to get the old default media player that came with windows back? I don't like the new media player because it takes up alot of space and its ugly. :) Thanks -FreezeDragon017

youll have to remove the current sound driver, and install the correct one for your sound card. you should have no problem getting it from the card's manufacturer

Have you gone to the audio properites and made sure that nothing is muted or turned down? Did you get the sound driver off your friends boot disk? If so, it may not be the right one. If you haven't changed the hardware that came in the comp, go to HP's website and download the driver from there. If you installed a different sound card you'll have to go to the manufacturer's site like Red said to find it. To unistall the present driver, right click on My Computer and then click on properties. In the box that pops up, click on hardwre and then device manager. Go down the tree until you get to the sound device and click on the "+" sign. Then right click on the audio device and click on properties. There should be a driver tab at the top. Click on that and you should see a "uninstall" button. Click that and reboot and then install the new one. Be advised, all this is from memory, been awhile since I fooled with win98, but the steps should be close. Hope this helps.
