Problems with Small programs

Hi,

My computer has been working fine for quite sometime, yesturday I removed all my files manually and then re-installed windows XP. However, I re-installed my few programs back and now its really not working properly. For one when I run programs such as Ventrillo, AIM, ICQ, etc. They take a long time to open and a long time to close, this didnt happen before. Also, my internet explorer browser takes forever to open, (I had used mozilla for a while but with windows installlation it should have gone back to IE). I was wondering if I would have to reformat or is there another way to solve this?. I have run numerous Virus Scans and Defrags as well as checked for spyware.

since its xp, you also reinstalled all the resource eating subprograms. in the guides forum, youll find a number of xp tweaks to play with that should get that speeded up. although the only reason to avoid a format is so you dont have to reinstall everthing, which you did anyway. might as well have done it.
