Cant start Diablo 2 !!!

I have only recently purchased Diablo 2, I secussfully installed it however when i try to play it it does not work.
My screen goes black and nothing happend, when i exit the screen a message comes up saying:

Diablo II Server Exception

Unhandled exception:
Access_violation (c0000005)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Furthermore a white dot appears on the top left of my screen.

sounds like something in the program isnt executing properly.
have you tried a full uninstall then reinstalling? that might fix this.

In your Diablo II directory there should be a file named "D2(date that the file was created)".txt, i.e. D2040109.txt. Open up that file and copy/paste its contents into your next post. That file contains a log of everything that happens when the game starts up, and it might tell us exactly what the problem is.

Do you have the latest drivers for your video and sound card installed?
