Diablo 2 play disk error!

Hey everyone in need of help here!
i bought diablo 2 awhile back and decided to uninstall it .. it worked fine i just didn't have the time to play .. i reinstalled it the other day and it was working fine .. it got uninstalled .. when i went to reinstall it .. it was installing fine then about 50 - 60% into the intstallation it gave me this message:
d2char.mpq
Error. 0x00000001:incorrect function
rsafeSF.cpp:67
at first i thought there may be a scratch on the disk so i tried it on a friends computer it worked fine and my disk has nothing on it not even a fingerprint :o
i have no clue what to do ..can ne one help me!

did you do a complete uninstall, sometimes just uninstalling leaves some things behind. check the add/remove programs and see if its there. if it isnt then its got to be something gone wrong during install. if its still there, remove it using the remove program and then try installing it again.
