Im lost PLZ help me find my way

Hey all im trying to set up a dedicated server for counter-strike steam 1.6 my os is win 98 wit a cable conection to net im not routing anthing its the only comp conected to net!!but im havin some troubles i have it instaled and working i can joing my server from the pc runing it with no lag and no probloms BUT my problom is that its only comin up as a lan server no mater what i try it stays lan what can i do to fix it some one PLZ HELP ME FIND THE RIGHT ROAD! iv heard som things about port fowading i mean ok sure BUT THE HELL IS THAT???

You can't join a server on the PC that is running it. You need to join from another PC or otherwise you ARE NOT running a server.

I don't know what all retail comes with, but if you have HL installed, then installed CS, you should have HLDS (Half-Life Dedicated Server). I haven't tried any of this with Steam yet, but it should work. Just find HLDS in the Half-Life main directory.

ok you can run a server and join it i did it with a lan game and my friend mad a server and then joind and with in 20 mins he had 8 ppl in the game and they were chicken duling i know it can be done so if any one can help id love it

It wasn't a dedicated server then. If that's what you want, you need to assign a PC to run it (and not play on it), otherwise it (A) won't be a dedicated server and (B) will lag to hell if you're playing on it with more than 6 people.

Like Swizzle said, look for HLDS.
