1.) What patch version are you installing? Is it from an autoupdate or did you download and install it manually?
2.) Is your Starcraft game a fresh install before you applied the patch?
3.) Did you use any hacks or modifications to your game?

Best way would be to uninstall Starcraft, then reinstall and apply the patch again...

try uninstalling and reinstalling the game then ... but before that, do a complete virus scan, just in case...

I had this problem once. I had my SC cd in the drive and it wouldn't let me update. I put the Broodwar CD in, and everything updated nicely.
