disabling autodisconnect

Hey does anyone here know how to disable autodisconnect for a little while. I'm trying to download stuff which takes a while and I need it shut off for a couple hours. Also if I'm downloading stuff can I still open another explorer window and surf and not corupt my downloading?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

PS I want to be able to turn it back on afterwards
