I hope someone out there can help me!!! I am trying to solve a problem for my g/f who when logged onto messenger and tries typing a message there seems to be a lag in what she is typing. I have tried everything that I know and I have tried a search but there doesn't seem to be an instance of this problem. Surely that can't be the case?? For instance if she was typing 'hello' then the 'he' would appear then there would be a gap before the rest would appear. This would then continue with everything else that was typed. Any help that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!!

it seem to me that there is something running at the same time that you know or in the background. Is it the case

I've been having tons of problems with MSN Messanger 6.1. Have you tried to to e-mail their help center?

I also was having problems with freezing on msn messenger 6.1. I uninstalled then reinstalled.. same prob. I then installed 6.2 instead and I currently have the same freeze problem you describe.
I had no problems before MSN 6.1

I'm also looking for a solution.
I run winxp pro 512 mg ram, amd athlon 2600+ asus m/board. Matrox video card.
I checked programs running in task manager and nothing else appears to be running.
I do suspect some component of windows messenger may be involved but cant prove that.
I dont have an option in windows components to delete windows messenger.
The folder for win messenger is also named messenger and it wont let me rename this or delete anything.
I too would appreciate any help.
Thanks
Stru

Two suggestions:

1) Get "Messenger Plus! Extension" it is a MSN Messenger tweak that allows you to turn off MSN ads among other things. Check it out at...
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/messengerplus.html

2) Get "Trillian Basic." It is a free messenger program that allows you to access all of your messenger programs at once though one interface. This includes AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ, and cool skins you can use with it too. Check it out at...

Hope this helps,

Thanks Carl for your suggestions.
I checked out the messenger extension and it doesnt seem to have anything I can see for stopping me freezing.
Trillion could be an option I suppose even though I dont run aol icq or any other message program.
I would like to be able to run messenger troublefree as before I downloaded 6.1 (Its a mystery)
Cheers Stru

Unless you hear of a better solution I would definitely give Trillian a try. Also, they have a really cool skin called Geiger that is available. It's based on the artwork of Gieger (he did the monsters for Alien) and has really cool alien sounds. Since it an interface and doesn't run off MSN Messenger directly, but rather uses you log-on, you shouldn't experience the same problems you have been. (Oh yeah, I think they have a boring MSN-looking skin too) Good luck!
