I am trying to determine what is the best distro of linux to run as a DNS server. Nothing more than just that. I would like the smallest footprint, with the best dns server. Anyone have any ideas?

How about Mandrake or SUSE.

I like Slackware just dont install all the xwindows stuff and it should be a small install. most distros should include the most common dns server which is bind http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/bind/
another popular on is djbdns http://cr.yp.to/djbdns.html

Slackware is an excellent lightweight distro. If you are looking for something even smaller, you might want to take a look at DamnSmall linux, or even homebrew with linuxfromscratch.
