ABit kt7/kt7-RAID
256 mg RAM
Prophet II MX video
Some older sound blaster card (but with very latest drivers)
Win 98
Ok...well, I have the latest drivers for everything in my PC. I have ample hard drive space (am using 2.81 of 31 GB). My problem is that game crashes either with 'stack walk error: 487" or that c000005 thing. I have spent $30 on phone calls to blizzard. I have changed the settings on CDR drive to 'no-read ahead' and small cache size. I have copied files directly from the CD to the Diablo folder. My system is not overclocked or overheating (I have 3 mega fans in there). I have disabled sound to see if the card was the problem...it wasn't. I have done everything I have ever found that Blizzard says to do. I have even done things that I found online that have worked for others. I am fed up.
Although I rarely get the sprite decompression error anymore, I do get the stack error almost everytime after 5 minutes in game. I don't know if that is what is causing lock ups anyway. I just want the game to work.
When I first got the game, it ran fine for 2-3 weeks and then it started crashing. I have formatted the HD, checked for every virus over and over. I find it hard to believe that I just cannot play without crashing until a new patch comes out when I have friends that have never had a problem. Grrrr now I am just rambling. ;) Please help. I love your website. :)

If you haven't already, try reading over our c0000005 crash error help page. A lot of things there you probably have tried, but something there might help. Especially under the CD issue section.

I think the c0000005 error is mainly caused by NVidia drivers more than anything else. Hopefully one of the WHQL drivers will help you out. CD issues are a close second and also a common cause of the error.

The Blizzard links on the page no longer work since Blizzard changed all their wep pages around. The virtual memory of 512 minimum and maximum would be just for your you if you tinker with virtual memory any.

Post back and tell us if you get it working or not.

Thanks so much for replying. It turns out, I had a hunch and checked my memory out. One stick was bad and was causing all of my problems. I played from midnight until 4am without ever crashing! :)
Thanks again!
