View Full Version : AHHH....Java Runtime Environment issues
So I've got Windows XP, and I can't get the Javan Runtime environment to work. The system came with JRE 1.3, but every time I tried to play a game online, I got a red X where the Java Applet should be. I tried to download the latest version of JRE (1.4_2 or something like that), and it still won't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I just got this computer a few months ago, and I'm ready to toss it out the window in frustration.

didnt windows update put the new version on for you?
make sure you have the right type for your browser. ie requires a different program from mozilla types. make sure you install it as a plug in for your browser, and that your java permissions under security are enabled.
I've tried to install it as a plug-in several times, and the applets still don't work. I didn't even think about the permissions, though. Thanks... I must have been too frustrated at 4 this morning to consider that.
As far as Windows Update, Windows no longer supports the Java Virtual Machine. Thus, they no longer provide updates for it.

oh, JVM is completely obsolete, no one uses it. its different from the current JRE put out by sun. if your system came with JRE, it should update........
