hi,
system specs are: celeron 433
VA6 mobo
13 gb hd
8mb ATI Rage Pro video card
Via audio (onboard)
320mb RAM

numerous errors, decompression of sprite, access violation c0000005 and general freezing. tried every one of blizzard's fixes none worked for long. also when copying and pasting char file and data file i am unable to log on bnet gettng the error invalid cd key,
soooo this game is giving me fits, i played it single player all the way to the end of normal.
i believe audio drivers are the problem but am unable to confirm that.
all other drivers are current and up to date.
any ideas?

Hmm, have you tried the usual initial solution? Like uninstalling the game, doing a complete scandisk/defrag, and then reinstalling it and downloading/installing the patch offline?

yes, everything, including what you have suggested, i have done that at least 4 times. including installing the patch both before and after the copy and paste of the char and data files. the only option it seems that i have left is to fdisk and format and try it all over

Problems like these were what first drew me to OTS. I also tried all the steps a couple of times.

The problem has not gone away completely but is now intermittent (?). Some days I can play for hours (on weekends), other days I can't go for 2 minutes, or sometimes steps.

The only thing I have found that does any good the most times is to create a new character and play with that one. After a while, I can go back to one of the other characters and be okay.

As I said when I first came here, I suspect the randomizer seed Blizzard is using. It is gawdawful big. I would almost suspect integer overflow or something, but I haven't written code at that level in so long..............

I do have (with latest drivers), the NVIDIA chipset. Oh well.

i had noticed the same thing, as i was stalled in act IV at Izzy, would defeat him then freeze and have to do it all over again, it was never the same each day, as you said, some days were good others were completely frustrating

Do you have the latest VIA AGP driver installed? What about DirectX8a?

Have you tried loading the VIA AGP driver into normal mode? What about your CMOS? Have you tried setting AGP to normal mode or other setup defaults for video?

Dorry foor all the questions. Just trying to eliminate some possibilities. For now, you might find some useful tips from our C0000005 crash help page. The page needs updated, but a lot of the tips are still useful.

Post back and tell us how you're doing. btw..Your Celeron isn't overclocked is it?

thanks for the suggestions Ion, but bios and cmos changes scare the heck out of me lol. i do have a buddy coming over that knows a lot more than i about those types of changes and we will go thru them when he gets here. also my celreon is not over clocked, it is running at its normal speed. not a fan of boosting performance at the expense of hardware. i will keep the group informed as to progress.

this game is driving me nuts. as good as it is the errors won't go away grrrrrrr. it ran fine without the 1.08 patch but since then its been all a pain in the butt. hope the next patch addresses these issues.
