Sounds like either your CD-ROM is having trouble reading it, or you have too many programs running while trying to install.

1.If you have more than on CD drive, try the other drive. Also check the disk for dirt or scratches. Clean the CD if needed.

If you have a trueX multibeam drive like the Delta drives or Kenwoods, or if the drive is a CDRW drive, check for a firmware update for the drive from the manufacturer of the drive. Sometimes updates help with reading copy proteted CD's.

2. Try shutting down extra programs while installing D2. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and only leave systray, exporer, point32 if you have it, and rnaapp if connected to the net. Shut down any antivirus programs while installing as well.

On a side note, sometimes DVD programs can interfere with autorun CD's. If you have Power or WinDVD installed, try uninstalling it and then install D2. Try this last if the above fails first.

Keep us informed.

Does any other CD work properly in that drive? Might wanna try buying a CD drive cleaner and give it a go.

It sounds to me like you may have a bad CD on your hands. If you can, try borrowing a friends CD and see if it works. Also, try installing the game on a friends computer if you can to see if it installs alright. This might be a good way to determine whether it's the CD or the drive you're trying to use.

Blizzard's copy protection scheme is finicky with some types of CD-ROMS. Even plain ones. It could be your CD doesn't like the drive. I think the Install/Play CD is the only one copy protected.
