Earlier today I was visiting a friend who plays LOD still. He recently found out about a 3DFX emulator and has been using it ever since to play LOD. The performance he gained with it was very substantial. So I decided to try it out, I dont play LOD anymore but I wanted to see just how well it did.
Before with my GF4 Ti 4400, FPS would drop way down in big battles. I used this emulator and it stayed constant, and IMO, the quality of the graphics is much higher than in D3D mode.

All you do is install that emulator, and then rerun the LOD vid test and select 3DFX Glide as the video mode. Most likely your performance will increase quite a bit.
