I can run defrag on my D: drive but on my C: drive, it stops after about 2 minutes and tells me that its complete, but the drive is still a mess, it tells me that it couldn't move the following files:(90%of them pretty much). Then of course if I load it again, it tells me I need to defrag it again, but with the same results. I have about 13% not used and they recommend 15% but is that the entire reason why its doing this? It would be a huge pain to free up this space, but if thats whats causing this then I'd be willing to do it.

Do yo have two operation systems or just hardriver in two partition?
If defrag doen't run, if using Windows 98(SE) or ME run scan disk first.
It could be that you have missing files or even bad cluster on your hard driver.
I had similar problem few times caused by the described problem.
Hopefully your problem is just a missing link or in that kind of category
that could be solved with reg cleaner program.
Also Virus/Worm and Trojan can cause that.
Borrow a diagnostic tool, well like Norton System Works 2004 and launch via CD the Disk Doctor, or something similar program.

I'm running XP pro on this system, I have scanned with about a dozen different utilities for viruses over the past few days and have removed everything that came up but none of em were viruses, just ad ware and other non malicious annoying stuff. My drive does have another partition but its just for Dell stuff and is tiny. I don't really have access to norton, any other software ideas I could use?

there should be a free scandisk/defrag utility wandering around online somewhere. see if you can get one of those to work.
