I have just installed Cool Edit Pro 2, I am unable to record, I do not have recordable levels either. The green vertical bar at the bottom of my screen moves a little--about two inches
Hardward: Audiophile 2496 sound card
PreAmp: AudioBuddy
I'm confident I have everything hooked up correctly. When I select the record function in Cool Edit, I do not see any wave files, The preamp shows my microphone is working.

First make sure you start a new file (File>new in edit mode or file>new session in muiltitrack view) and choose your new waveform properties. Then click otions>windows recording mixer and make sure that the device you want to use is selected at the bottom of the mixer (i.e. mike, line in, etc.). Then click otions>monitor record levels. At this point you should be able to click the red record button on the controls at the bottom to start the recording and you will be able to monitor the record levels. Hope this helps!

:o Thanks for the help. I'm still having the same problem. I think it has to do with the "sounds and audio devices" I have SoundMAX as a default on my system. The Audiophile2496 has three and four options to choose from for playback and recording. I don't know which ones to choose. Is there anyone out there who has CoolEdit2.0 and Audiophile 2496 soundcard? I need help with the settings.

Thanks for your suggestions TrekPsyco! I'll check out that website you have featured on your signature!

Lori.

Oh, boy that's some sound card you got there (looked it up). I using intergrated sound so I really can't help with that. However, I looked in the help on Cool Edit and maybe you could check out the section on "Assign record and playback devices to track". Good Luck!
