Samples of VIA's new DDR chipset solution have made their way to hardware sites across the net. In a nutshell, the VIA P4X266 chipset may not outperform the i850 on average, but scores for the chipset are very close and promising. Top that off with the cheap price of DDR and this chipset really is a nice alternative to an i850 board which only supports Rambus.

I'm impressed VIA was able to get the performance they did considering the P4 wasn't even designed for use with any other type of memory.

I think it pretty much shows that if Intel was able to produce a DDR supporting board now, it would definately outperform the i850.
