This site is really good as far as the way it works and all. It's new so the message board and a few other things are not up yet.

PS... in case you are thinking "cool! They will have Crass patches!" you are very wrong buddy.

Uhm ... "interesting" site

I actually liked one of the patches there (the one that says "SICK KICKS FOR SHOCK ROCKERS") ... but I don't think my momma will approve :p

Can't wait till they have the message board.

"You're not punk! I am!"
"No way dude, you're so not as punk as me! I sleep in dumpsters!"

Haha... the things people say to impress you :)

I will never forget the time I was 18 and had a black eye from a pit at a punk rock show.. and the next day at school this 14 year old punker came up and said "man, you're the chick that got knocked out last night at the show.. that is SO F***IN COOL, MAN!"

I didn't feel like explaining to him that a minor concussion really was not that cool...

Ah well. Punk is as punk does, eh?

Haha...

Some 'punks' are so stupid. Anything bad is cool. But then again there are so many losers who think they are punk one week and something else the next... how are you supposed to keep track? I say we have little tags you stick on your forhead every morning before you go out. Puts a new meaning on 'label'. Haha.

Another thing that REALLY bugs me about those 'punk' kids is when they complain about punk having rules. Well duh it has rules just like every other subculture... gr.... I thought you wanted to be a punk?????

Punk rock is a state of mind.

I'm not too sure you can slap too many "rules" on that.

I just think that you can't make fun of punks with spiky hair and tight pants and all and say you are more punk cause you think it doesn't have rules and it isn't about what you wear. That's kinda contradicting if you ask me.

*sigh*

Punk rock used to be about the politics, about saying "F*** YOU!" loud and clear to the establishment, and, most of all, about having a really f***in good time.

It's too bad that people have to have the "punker-than-thou" mindset.. and that it's about whether or not someone has a mohawk or not... rather than about who you are, how you think, and what you do.

All self-proclaimed punkers need to read some Maximum Rock 'N' Roll and listen to some Dead Kennedys. That's a suggestion, not a rule. :D

I just hate it when kids see some guy with a mohawk and automaticly think he is an eletist. If punk doesn't have rules why can't a guy (or even a girl) get a mohawk?

Whoo... there goes the point, flying off into the distance....

I have to say that I'm now completely impressed with you Shalome.

I'm 34 years old and I got into punk rock in '79. Back then, Punk included Hardcore, what was called techno back then, New Romantic and New Wave, Ska (or Dance Hall) and Reggae (and if you don't belive that, look into Jamaicas' history through the eyes of a Jamaican. Bob Marley was a Punk!). Back then U2 and Huey Lewis and the News was listened to by Punks. Back then The Cult was called Southern Death Cult before becoming Death Cult before changing to what they are now.

Let's put it this way. A lot of things were different.

But here is the key thing. It meant something a lot more. LIke you said, listen to DK. People that actually had something to say. The Clash too. Songs like Washington Bullets from the San Danista album mean something more than just worrying about the next 40 ouncer or bong hit.

Another thing. It was a lot harder to be into Punk back then where as now it's much more accepted. Back in the early 80's, you had all these what we called haitians (long hair rock listening too levi jacket wearing jerks) that almost allways wanted to fight. It seemed like I spent 7th - 9th grade throwing down! After I busted up a couple of fools, and the rest knew I was willing, things got eaesier.

Anyways, Punk IS a state of mind. If you have that state of mind, you don't even NEED to dress the part. It's in how you act and treat others. That doesn't include spitting on people or punching them in pits. Besides, NORMAL people alone are tossed up enough, why act like them? I'll bet it wasn't a 'punker' that blew up the building in
Oklahoma City. It wasn't 'punkers' that supported and/or allowed genocidal regimes in Southeast Asia and South America that are responsible for the deaths of millions!

I'll calm down now.

For you Indira, I'm glad to see you're at a good beginning. Just don't let the establishment tell you which direction is the correct one.

Rock hard, ride free....
Big Din K.R.

P.S.
Shalome, do you remeber a magazine called Flipside? Is it still around? I've been in the South Caribbean for the past couple of years.

Hadn't heard of Flipside.. was it wide-distro or a local thing? I used to subscribe to MR'N'R in the early 90s.
