View Full Version : Photoshop RAM
Why does it matter for the Adobe Photoshop settings on how much RAM is takes up? Currently mine takes up 50% of my RAM, which is a crapload. Is that too much or too little or just perfect? Because 59 megs of RAM is quite a bit to be just using for one program.

Nearly every high end graphic program is a RAM hog. I'm not sure why, but I bet that the image creation involves quite a bit of code.

Do it or don't do it, you will have to choose sometime in the future

He probably has 128MB.
Complex graphics programs require more processing power and memory. It's just the way it is - a lot like how high-end sportscars consume so much more fuel than regular street cars.

The more ram you allocate photoshop, the faster it will go.
One image with multiple layers can take up a LOT of memory, depending how big it is.
If photoshop doesn't have enough ram, then it'll be banging the swapfile for data.
A good rule of thumb, is if your harddrive goes nuts every time you use photoshop, you probably need to give it more ram.

But I'm giving it all the ram she's got captain! Sorry, hehe http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/wink.gif Well, I think 59 megs is plenty and it's running pretty smooth, but soon I'm gonna upgrade to 256, thanks.
