Hi there

Dont know if that is the right place to post that problem - please tell me if its not...

I get the following error message on a frequent base (one a day, 6-8 hours pc work) on my tecra 8000 (more specs, see bottom):

"An execption 0E has occured at 0028:C0046554 in VXD NWLINK(01)+ 00030D0. This was called from 0028:C005F2DC in VXD NDIS(01) + 00008600. Press a key to continue..."

Symptoms:
- the error message is always the same (same adresses)
- after pressing a key windows still looks to work in a "stable" mode; but no more tcpip connections are possible (existing connections dont work anymore)
- this error normally occurs while :
-> launching windows and just before/after logging into ms network
-> using netscape navigator 4.6

Specs:
- tecra 8000, 128 mb, 6 gb hd...
- win95, 4.00.950 b, build 1212
- cable modem; 3com etherlink card
- network: ms & novell network clients; ipx & tcpip protocolls
- 2 hardware profiles: normally used one: enabled etherlink card & disabled iomega zip drip (parallel port); second profile vice versa
- "background" software: firewall zone alarm; norton antivirus (error occurs also without virsu scanner in the background!)

Hmm thats it so far (more info necessary?)...

Any idea what could be the reason for this ugly blue screen?
Any suggestions what I can do to solve it?

Thanks in advance!!

My only guess would be to make sure you have the most recent drivers for your 3Com. Also make sure you're doing windows updates fairly regularly. OH, and have you installed any of the cable modem 'tweaks'? Many of them are made with Win98 in mind from what I've seen. Don't know if it'd cause problems, but it's worth a shot...

The error message looks more like a network problem. Have you tried reinstalling your network card drivers? Maybe download the best suitable 3COM network drivers specifically for Win95b?

It may also be a case of your network card sharing an IRQ with another hardware device (most probably your soundcard). Right click on My Computer, choose Properties, then choose Device Manager and double click on Computer at the very top .. this'll show you the IRQ assignments of all your hardware devices. Check to see which device is sharing an IRQ with your network card.

Check first to see if it's just bad drivers or an IRQ sharing conflict, and we'll try to see what we can do to fix it.

And post back if neither of these is the problem...

thanks right away!... the lan card sits alone at irq10 (hmm but 11 is totally overcrowded...)

next i will try the lan driver update - i will give feedback asap...

I would try running with your firewall disabled and the nortons off (just to test it). It could be the software causing the problem.

If disabling the firewall removes the problem, check for updates and FAQ's for the software. If it doesn't, you might try re-installing the network protocols and remove any unnesessary bindings. My money is on the Software firewall causing problems. I hear they conflict with certain things at times.

The IRQ sharing I wouldn't think would be a problem if your network card has it's own IRQ. If you're having any other problems though, i'd get everything you can on it's own seperate IRQ since you're using Windows 95. You'll probably have to assign the IRQ's manually in your BIOS to get them on their seperate IRQ's.

Post back and let us know what you have tried and we'll throw more tips your way if you need them.
