Printer problem in Win98/Win2K...

Hmm, could've also asked this in the Win2K forum, but since this section is a little bare, here we are http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif

Anyway, I am trying to share printers over our little home network of three computers (two Win98 machines and one dual-boot Win98/Win2K). The printer (Epson Stylus 860 connected to one of the Win98 computers) is shared just fine when all of us are booted into Win98. But when I boot into Win2K, I couldn't connect to the computer that is sharing the printer. I have tried installing the Win2K drivers for the printer, but it just can't seem to connect.

Note that the network is working just fine (we can share files and printers), but only when I boot into Win2K do I have problems connecting to the printer.

Do I need to update the Win98 drivers on the computer that has the printer? Or am I doomed to always booting into Win98 just to print something?

What does it do when you search for the printer from the add printer icon in the control panel? Does it find the printer when it searches for it?

Is file and printer sharing enabled on the Windows 2000 computer? Right-click on network neighborhood and select properties to check your LAN connection. Make file and printer sharing for MS networks is in the list.

Are you all part of the same workgroup?

Are you logged on as administrator on the Windows 2000 machine? You may have to change permissions for your log on if not.

I know this seems kind of basic but usually these problems are from something accidently overlooked. I know from experience..hehe

Laggy, Have you checked your Nic crds Config?.. Make sure in the properties of TCP/IP on the WINS config tab that you have the "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution " checked you need that checked even if you do not have a DCHP server running on your home network
