As far as I know, that's not a problem with anything but the thing that runs the keyboard, I think it's a .inf or .dll file. All you should need to do is reinstall the thingy, maybe one of these guys can explain it better.

Hmmm .. do ALL programs in Office 97 exhibit the same behavior for the backspace? Does that behavior only work in Office 97, or in other programs too?
I don't have Office 97, so I couldn't recreate the problem. I do, however, have Office 2000, and it has a keyboard layout feature. Try choosing HELP from any Office program you have (I'd choose Word), and type in the keyword "keyboard" .. see what results you get from that keyword and find out any cuztomization options it offers. In Word 2000, it is TOOLS -> OPTIONS ->EDIT ... dunno what it is in Word 97.
Also make sure you have your keyboard settings are set correctly in START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> KEYBOARD. Make sure you are using English (United States) 101.
You may wanna try another keyboard and see if it behaves the same way. If it doesn't, then there may be something wrong with your keyboard (or your keyboard software, if you have any). Do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if you have any special software loaded that may control your keyboard.
If all else fails, I can suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Office 97, but this is a last resort. Post back if you have any further problems.

Turn out someone took Office 97 and set it so whenever you type "space" it does backspace instead of front.
We have looked at styles, font types, keyboards, and pretty much everything known to man. Help up!
