View Full Version : Does anybody know where I can find...

a free packet sniffer/logger. I wanna see all the nice info that b.net sends me and try to interpret it all. Semi-useful BS that's just fun to fiddle with.

I'm sorry ... IP sniffers in relation to Battle.Net are major exploit tools, and I am afraid I can't provide a direct link to where you can find these kinds of programs.

You can still search for it on the Web, however.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I don't give a flying you-know-what about IPs. What I'm looking for is something to log the UDP packets that b.net sends my games, so I can analyze them and get D2 stat strings, or D1 stats, or who's in a game, and some other pointless things. No nuking/hacking/sniffing/pinging or any of that stupid stuff, I have no need for it.

Okay, so maybe you weren't interested in IP addresses, but what you're looking for still leads basically to the same thing - exploits. I'm not saying you are going to abuse it, but I AM saying that some people DO abuse it.

Besides, from what I read, you will only be able to get actual useful information if you are INSIDE the network you are trying to sniff.

I see you have also asked this in TheHelper.Net forums, and Rapmaster gave you a link, and it's a pretty good link. Maybe you wanna try that out first...

Do you have a firewall?

Sometimes they block UDP packets form arriveing at you comp. When you are tring to connect to b.net.

If so disable it. And connect to Battle.Net. The trun it back on when your finish playing on Battle.Net.

Try these.

Check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and/or network admin to make sure your network is not restricting UDP or TCP/IP packets on Port 6112 of your router.
If your ISP has a program you need to install before connecting to them or the Internet, make sure their software is a 32bit version.
If you are using a modem make sure you have the current drivers installed and that your ISP supports the modems connection speed.
Many ISPs will have different phone numbers to use for different modem speeds. Contact your ISP for this information.

Also your Internet connection must support 32bit Internet applications.

Well I still can log on to Diablo II battle.net but not able to log on to any of the other of blizzard's games battl.net. Why?

Hmm, check this link from Blizzard's tech support page:

http://www.blizzard.com/support/index.asp?Action=Solution

This is just a guess, but I also think the battle.net server list in your registry is outdated. Since Diablo II is the newest game in Blizzard's bnet line-up, it has the most updated bnet server list. Try this link and see if the BNReset.reg file can help you out.

Post back on your progress or if you have any further problems...

For Diablo 2 You will need to set two rules

First one is allow tcp on port 6112 for Diablo 2.Exe

Then set another rule and allow tcp on 6112 for game.exe <-- Located in the diablo 2 folder.

Memnoch: I am able to work Diablo II, but am not able to work any other blizzard game. Would I do the same thing for Broodwar by setting the 2 rules in a different file?

Canis Lupus: I can not find the file you are talking about: BNreset.reg

Hmmmm, okay, it seems Blizzard has changed their support pages and made them impossible to link to directly. I'll just quote them here:

Are you getting the message ‘battle.net is not responding’?

If this error happens at irregular intervals, Battle.net may be down for maintenance - please try again later. Otherwise, please try the following steps in the order they appear. If step 1 does not help, proceed to step 2 and so forth:

Return to the main support menu ( http://www.blizzard.com/support/index.asp ), select the product you are using then check the patch information to make sure you have the latest version installed.

It is possible the Battle.net server list has been corrupted. To fix this, download and run BNReset.reg (http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/misc/bnreset.reg)
Note: This file will reset the Battle.net server list key in your registry file.

If you use a modem to dial up to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), ask your ISP for an alternate phone number to try.

Open the folder where you installed Starcraft and find the bncache.dat file. Select this file and push the 'F2' key to rename it. Rename bncache.dat to bncache.old and push the 'enter' key.
If this fixed the problem please email the bncache.old file to support@blizzard.com , along with information on the problem you were having.

Checking your Internet connection:
Bandwidth Speed Test: If you are still having problem you may want to check your current connections available bandwidth at http://computingcentral.msn.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest.asp.

Internet Traffic Report: The Internet Traffic Report monitors the flow of data around the world. You may want to visit this web site to get an idea about the reliability of your region's connections.

If the Internet connection information shows you have a connection below what you think your modem, and ISP should be connecting at, please contact your ISP to see if there are any problems with their service.

See if this works. If not, I'll post some more things from Battle.Net's help page. OR you can visit it yourself at http://www.blizzard.com/support/index.asp .

I downloaded the patch and everything was working fine yesterday, but now, the same message appears on the battle.net screen. I tried redownloading the patch, but nothing changed. Is there anything else I can do?

UDP help,

If you could post some of your system spec's and the type of connection you use to connect to the internet, It would be helpful in solving this issue.

UDP,

If you were able to play one day and not the next, then I would say ISP or your system causing the probs. Since you think you do not have a Firewall, I will assume that there is possible another program conflicting with the software communication.

Try this.

1. Reboot
2. When windows comes up, do Control+alt+del. Endtask on everything EXCEPT systray, Explorer and Point32 if they are there.
3. Launch the game and try. If you can get on, then it may have been one of those other programs that you endtasked on, causing the problems.
4. If no connection, reclick on that BNReset.REG file you downloaded. You could be getting a bad bunch of servers.

Give those a try and Post back with what you have tried.

Good Luck!!

I have tried shutting off the unneeded programs, but BroodWar still does not work. It might be something wrong with my ISP though. I will reply back when I get information from my ISP if there is anything they do not know about.

Look, He is curious as to what is being sent / recieved to and from battle.net when he is connected, That is 100% Legal and 100% his right to know, By NOT telling him, You are Violating U.S. and Foreign Internet Privacy laws.... So without further adu:

WinPcap- A Packet Capture Architecture for Windows: http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/

Anaylser- A public Domain protocol analyser: http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/analyzer/

They both contain Extensive Tutorials and Help Resources for Installing the Network Protocol drivers and seting up the Packet analyser(s)

So Enjoy, And have fun!E
