Console games online seem to be the next big thing. I personally think price will keep it from being the next big thing. Let's see what a poll says. :)

I voted if the games end up being real cool. The broadband charges don't apply to me since I already have it. :)
Someone who doesn't have it might not consider it an option though considering the extra cost. I only see broadband going up in price as well.

I dont like consoles going online but I will be playing some of the games, Like FFXI, TM:B and Resident Evil online, games that I wont be able to get for PC(or wont be out on PC for a very long time). Other than that, not much I take interest in it. I already have THPS3 so Ill give that a Try online.
I already have broadband so the only charge Ill be getting is the $10.95 or whatever per month for FFXI. Problem is that FFXi and SWG will be coming out close together. I want to play them both but I dont wanna neglect one over the other.

I already have broadband but there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay a monthly fee that high for online gaming, especially for a console.

The prices include broadband since most console gamer's don't have that at all. And for most, gaming would be the only incentive if they don't own a PC.

I have broadband. I have yet to meet a game interesting enough that I would a) pay for initially, b) continue paying for the privilege of playing. I lose interest too quickly. Now where's my Ritalin?

I agree with Shalome. I wouldn't start paying for a game I haven't already played. And a monthly fee would make me hestitate about even buying the game to start with. I pay enough money to buy the actual game. Example: FFX costs €60 here in Sweden. If FFXI would cost as much to buy, and I would have to pay extra money to play online, I wouldn't buy it. That's it. Oh, btw, broadband isn't always expensive. I only pay €2.50 per month for my real broadband, 10 Mbit both directions.

I already have a BB connection. I think a better poll would be to ask how much you would be willing to pay as a monthly fee to play a game. Assuming it is a good game.
Personally I am against pay to play games. I have only done one (EQ), and that was becasue my two eldests talked me into playing it with them. I just about stopped playing the game when Sony raised their rates from 9.95 to 12.95 a month (less if you paid 3, 6, or 12 months in advance).

I thought XBox Live was only $10/month

Maybe broadband is just cheaper in enlightened countries like Sweden..

Generally, the monthly fee in Sweden is somewhere around €20-€30 per month, but I live close to my University (not in a dorm, in a real apartment of my own) so I get a cheap connection through them. This is very common in Sweden. The Swedish University Net, SUNET, has 253108 registered computers. That number includes both private and office computers, but considering that there are only 9 million swedes, that number is very high. And those people get free broadband...

I don't have broadband and I won't get it just for one game.

Exactly. That's why Broadband was in the monthly prices. The majority of console gamer's or even PC owners don't even have broadband. The only ones who are considering it, already have it.
If you pay 40$ a month for cable and are willing to pay 10$ a month for online console games, click the 50$ a month bill.
Personally i'm starting to think broadband is overrated now. Imagine paying for it when you only use it for console games.

Well it depends what you use it for. Just for playing console games it is a waste. But if you play Computer games and download/upload a lot, run servers etc, broadband is very needed.

All Xbox games are Broadband only. PS2 games are 56k and Broadband, a few are broadband only(So far though only Socom is BB Only).
The only games that will have monthly fee for PS2 are MMORPG's, such as FFXI, EQA and SWG. MS hasnt said much about monthly fee's, but you can count on MMO's as having them for sure.

I'm lucky to reach 200k/s on a good day - I think my higest ever was 283k/s. My friend only pulls 20k/s but refuses to call the company *shrug* IMO he'd be better off with 56k...

hehe, kind of funny how no one is putting faith into online multiplayer games for consoles yet. Perhaps it's still too far away for the potential to be realized.

If console games are free to play over the internet Then of course I would play. That is why I do not play MMRPG(or whatever they are called)because they cost money.

I have broadband, but i think the idea of paying to play games (e.g. FF11) is extremely stupid. The game has already been bought and now we have to spend money on the server? That is ludocrous.
If I were to buy a game for ps2 i would rather play single player not online, however ff11 will only be online, im sad.
Even if it was completely free i wouldnt play online with my console, i just dont like the idea. Console games shouldnt be online, thats what computers are for. I hope console games online wont become the next big thing

i would not spend jack squat to play online. i couldnt play ff11 cuz i would get addicted to the card game like i did in ff8 & 9, but i couldnt reset the game if i lost. then someone would be walking around with MY cards that would just suck. i know that there might not be a card game, but still and then how is your party gonna be built up it wouldnt really be an rpg. well i know that there are other games that arent rpgs on multiplayer i woulnt like AoE type games cuz i just dont like the fact that ill play against real people with minds, and i know that you can play compstomp but you can do that in single, so whats the point?
