I formatted my HD last night, reinstalled drivers and all, tried reinstalling D2, it goes fine till it gets up to d2speech.mpq it gets about halfway through that, then it stops. It gives me an error: "0x0000001E: The system cannot read from the specified device (SafeSF.cpp:67) I asked on thehelper.net, so far i got the response, try burning the CD and use that one to install...any other ideas? I mean, I shouldnt have to burn a CD to reinstall a game. I payed for it and Blizz is pissing me off. Any help would be appreciated...thanx http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif

Somehow I don't think burning a CD will fix your problem. Here's some thing to try.

1. Try cleaning the CD. Sometimes the simplest things work. http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif

2. If you have a CDRW, DVD, or a TrueX(Multibeam) drive of somekind, check for a firmware update for it. Diablo 2 CD's have trouble being read by the TrueX drives but supposedly some of the firmware updates address the problem.

3. Try installing from a different CD-ROM if possible. If it won't install on another one, it could be a defective CD. If there's a bad scratch on the CD, you could try one of those repair kits but they don't always work depending on the scratch.

4. You might try adjusting the cache size for the CD-ROM under the performance Tab under the system icon in the control panel. A lower size may help.
