Choppy gameplay in chatroom ! ! ! heeelp

Heeelp.

I play with a 1000 mhz and a Creative GeForce 2GTS, 256 MB SDRAM, 28 GB free HD space, 40x cd with 75 ms access, SB Live! and yada yada.

Still, I get choppy gameplay and loading new characters (entering only not exiting) make the system pause.

DirectX 7.0a installed. Latest detonator installed.

Ingame lag and choppiness is not uncommon despite more than adequate system specs, and many people experience it, too. It is possibly an ingame bug or something that Blizzard needs to address in the next patch or in the expansion, whichever comes out first.

Anyway, try disabling 3D-sound (or just disable music itself) and see if the performance improves. Also, you may wanna try copying d2char.mpq and d2music.mpq from your CD to your game folder and see if the performance improves.

Also disable any background programs you don't need while you are running the game.

Halleluja! Someone else who has the same problem as me! Dude, send me some mail at pakenney38@hotmail.com, and we can form a collition to fight against this great evil! Blizzard must fix their game!
Here's one thing you might try. Make sure that the CD-ROM and hard drive are not on the same data cable chain. I've noticed slightly better loading conditions from the hard drive after moving the CD-ROM to the secondary chain.
