I am having trouble with connecting to battle.net. First i got to the multiplayer screen and tell it to connect to battle.net. Then it startys too and says "searching for fastest battle.net server" then the screen goes black and it takes me back to the multiplayer screen. Got any ideas on how i can fix this?? and go onto battle.net
Oh yeah:nice site too!!!

Glad you liked the site http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif
Anyway, is this the first time you installed StarCraft? Has it been working before? Is this a reinstallation?
In any case, I recommend checking this page out first:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/index.asp?Action=Solution&BugID=247
You might also want to try downloading BNReset.reg (http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/misc/bnreset.reg) from Blizzard's server, then run it and see if it solves your problem, because it may just be a case of an outdated server list in your registry.
Also check a somewhat similar thread with a possible solutions here (http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/Forum25/HTML/000006.html#12).
Post back on your progress, or if you continue to have problems connecting.

Hmm, okay, let's see what else we can do...
What kind of Internet connection do you have? Is it dial-up, broadband or DSL? Have you been able to play other online multiplayer games aside from StarCraft?
Post your complete system specs so we can help you better. If you don't know what they are, download this program (http://www.opentechsupport.net/downloads/utilities/mypcinfo.exe) and run it, then post the system specs here.
For now, I would suggest going to your StarCraft folder and deleting bncache.dat, then try reconnecting again (don't be surprised if it recreates the .dat file, it's supposed to to that). If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the game, do a complete scandisk/defrag, then reinstall it, and make sure to download the patch from here (http://www.opentechsupport.net/cgi-bin/faqcgi/ubbcount.cgi?expath1=Forum6&expath2=&topic=000002&type=&number=6) and apply it offline before you connect again.
If it still doesn't work, make sure you got the latest video and sound drivers, as well as any firmware updates and drivers for your CD-ROM drive or modem/network card.
If you are again bounced back into the multiplayer screen, try exiting the game and look for an .err file on your StarCraft folder. If you find one, post the contents of that file here.
p.s. I am moving this thread to the Real-Time Strategy Games forum.

Fixed the smilies http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/smile.gif
Anyway, I found a curious entry in your specs: Do you have TWO physical CD-ROM drives, or just one? I am curious about the V386 Virtual CDROM. And which one are you using for StarCraft?
The shared broadband connection shouldn't matter if you're just connecting, and you said you could connect using Diablo II and WarCraft2 BNE.
Anyway, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? Do that and post back if you still can't connect.

Explain the method you use to Split the connection. Router, proxy, ICS?
This may be an issue.

wacheif,
If you could find out what proxy and what machine is running the proxy service, It would help to troubleshoot this.

Have you tried shutting down all extra programs before running Starcraft on battle.net? There could be something keeping it from logging on such as low memory resources or a program running. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and only leave systray, explorer, and point32 if you have it.
You also might try running Windows Update and update what you can.
If it still goes blank, try connecting with just your computer straight from the cable modem. Judging by your IP, you're the server with the others connected with Internet connection sharing.
Post back if you're still having trouble. Cable modems don't always work with battle.net however and it's usually more ISP to battle.net related than anything else.

Are you using windows Internet Connection Sharing or some other type of ICS software? (Such as Sygate of Wingate)
Windows ICS usually works fine in this case. If you're only using Windows 98 first edition, then you're probably using a different one.
You can get Sygate from here (http://www.sygate.com/free/sgsignup.php).
Wingate can be found here (http://wingate.deerfield.com/).
First, find out what type of ICS software you're using and ask permission to uninstall it. Ten try one of the others out.
Before you do all that, you might call your ISP and see if they're blocking any ports. IF others use the same service with problems, they may know about it.

I have problems to connect to Battle.Net server because I am behind the FreeBSD socks5 proxy. What string I have to add to socks5.conf file on server to get access? Or is it really possible to get access?
