View Full Version : Will you buy Warcraft III?

Warcraft III is scheduled to be in stores on July 3, 2002, and this poll is only timely. This is actually a reprise of an earlier poll (http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6042) done four months ago, just to see if people's opinions have changed on the game.

Now that the beta has ended and some of you have seen what the game can do (either by playing the beta or looking at the screenshots), are you going to grab it this week?

I played enough of it to know that I'm not going to buy it.

I will just to see what it is like.

I won't buy it cause I won't ever play it multiplayer, and it's too difficult for me to finish the single player mode.

I chose "other" because I'll probably buy it after bugs get ironed out, if other people like it. I'm not exactly one of those people who has to have a new game the minute it comes out. :)

I mean, hell, we just bought our own copy of Starcraft last month.

Im not going to buy it. $60 and plus I didnt care much for it in the Beta. I played it about 2 weeks and got kinda bored with it.

No. Absolutely not.

To me the Beta seemed like broodwar with different looking units.

After the way Diablo 2 was handled and continues to be handled, I will not purchase another Blizzard game for a very long time. If ever.

That's my opinion too. I've not gone as far as to declare an official boycott of blizzard products, but it's close.

The only reason I haven't, is because World of Warcraft has the potential to be the first MMORPG that doesn't thoroughly suck. Of course, they'll probably **** it up, but I have to believe that the people who once brought us the original diablo, still has something up their sleeve.

If WOW sucks though, I'll definitely go full boycott.

I have always liked Blizzard's single player games. So I will definitely keep buying Blizzard's single player games ;)

It depends how many people I know are getting it and how detailed the world editor is.
I don't like playing random games with anybody in any RTS. I'm also not too fond of anything but UMS maps.

I know a lot of people who are on the school LAN that will definately get it, and it'll be the game of choice for the gamers at school.

btw I hate UMS, a gigantic waste of time.

I'm buying Warcraft III in a few days, at the same time that I'm going to buy my new video card.

Bobaroo
07-01-2002, 01:42 PM
What type of Video card?

I am hoping a bunch of my friends or some people from OTS get it so I can have people to play with.

Swilo

I like UMS because it's more based on having fun, not who's memorized the build orders and knows every little bit of the game inside and out. That's a waste of time to me.
Plus making UMS maps is great, especially when you make a few good ones like I did with war2. I'm hoping the editor has the same flexibility as the SC editor's triggers. Maybe someone will make a nice edited editor like War2xEd (www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~jkkassel/files/War2xEd.zip) that lets you do neato things like flying sheep that self destruct...

I've decided on an ATI Radeon 8500 with 128 mbs of DDR RAM. It's much cheaper than a Gforce 4.

I'm not buying the game when it comes out. Hopefully when I go over my friends' houses and see the final game I may be convinced to buy it.

I heard the UMS's on WC3 were really good though.

The video clips in Warcraft III are great, I've seen a few of them. The graphics are supposedly improved as well.

That's a lousy way to justify software piracy...

You know sometimes it's s good idea to keep that stuff to yourself...

You know, phil, if you want to persist with your piracy talk, perhaps you should just, you know, find a different board. We don't like pirates around here.

Step 1: Buy Game.
Step 2: Play Game.

And it should always happen in that order. If it doesn't, no need to tell us about it. Keep your filthy habits to yourself, or take them somewhere else.

You'd think most people would try not to give these things away for their own reputation.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

I'm going down to the mall tomorrow and going to see if I can find myself a Collector's Edition.
Stupid asshats better have one.
I want that ****ing DVD!!

Hi, by the way, back from the trip a bit ago and goddamn were there a lot of posts. Traffic sucked, had to detour over I80, bleh, flash flood damage in Nebraska, who'd have guessed, I25 wasn't too fun either, freakin' trex. Anyhoo

Xtren

I got the Collector's Edition myself. Believe me, it's really worth it. Comes with a ****load of stuff. But I'm no going to ruin the surprise for you, you'll see for yourself.

Are the cinematics on the DVD?

Canis Lupus
07-07-2002, 02:09 AM
Yeah, the Collector's Edition contains a DVD with all the War3 cinematics on it, as well as a soundtrack CD, among other things :)

Outlaw

Can you pleaeaease upload the cinematics to my ftp? :D

Swilo

I ordered the collector's edition wednesday morning, and they still haven't confirmed shipping. damned people

Outlaw

I don't want the game, I want to Divx the cinematics to see what quality I can get them.
I'll probably watch them once or twice and never again.
I'm not gonna buy a game for that.

PhantomGamer
07-07-2002, 11:05 AM
I just got it

I picked up a copy of the Collector's Edition at CompUSA an hour ago for (79.99+4.40tax) 84.39.

It just doesn't look like a game I would enjoy. A little too goofy. Even for me.

I keep hearing it will be better than SC/BW, but then I go look it up on the web or take a look at the box at the store, and just place it back almost as fast as I picked it up. Didn't much care for the WC toys either. Guess all the good ones were gone already.

Xtren
07-10-2002, 05:31 PM
Warcraft III is BY FAR better than SC and BW. I suppose you might not believe it unless you play though. I assure you it's owrth it though. I haven't heard of anybody who has bought the game and doesn't think it's great.

Swilo

Just got Collector's Edition today.
$79.99 (after 4.99 S&H)
GOD DAMN THIS BOX IS HEAVY FOR ONE GAME!

Who's up for some all night WC3?

That doesn't sound like a bad idea, what time are you going to be on bnet?

WC3 isn't a bad game, but the multiplayer doesn't come close to that of SC/BW (and of course that's just my opinion ;).

Who wants to play? I'm bored.

I just ordered it today. Swilo, how long did it take to confirm for you? It took about, oh, a minute for me :p :D :D :D Now all I need is NWN and I'll be set for a while... OK, a little while... well, two weeks at least :D

Xtren
07-16-2002, 07:31 PM
I'd get NwN after I'm done with War3 if I were you. If you get both games then you'll have too many things to do and you won't know which game to play. Both of them at the same time probably won't last you as long either. I have both games, so I know.

Spider
07-16-2002, 09:02 PM
I have both.
I haven't played Neverwinter since before I left a few weeks ago to go to MI for the 4th. Anyway, I tried playing last night, when I was bored. I had nothing else to do.
I loaded up the game, selected my most recent save. When I got my bigass orc warrior up I was like "yeah" I read in my journal what I was supposed to do, started going towards another district (docks or something)
then a realization struck me like an epiphony

Neverwinter sucks.

I went and played more Warcraft.

Xtren
07-17-2002, 01:21 AM
I like NwN better than Warcraft III, except I have a lot of friends that play Warcraft III, and not all that many to play NwN with. Multiplayer in Warcraft III is also really good to play with friends, NwN multiplayer isn't really that much fun. I'm hoping it will get better when all that PWs and modules get finished.

Storm_Shot
07-17-2002, 10:47 AM
Heh, I probably wont have enough cash to get NWN until I've beaten War3 every which way anyway, but if I do get the chance to grab it early, it's mine :D

Xtren
07-17-2002, 02:24 PM
It really is hard to resist isn't it? If I could resist than I wouldn't have bought the game, which in my case was Warcraft III. I hardly ever spend my money anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter to me.

Not to hard to resist when you don't have enough cash :D And now I saw a review for Icewind Dale 2 that makes me want it. 3rd edition rules, and you make all your own chars, what's not to like? I just hope they make it a lot less linear than the first one. *prays*

Xtren

I haven't heard a lot about IceWind Dale II, except for the fact that it's not supposed to look as good as NwN. I'm not sure it will be a better game at all, but if you want to go for it then go ahead. Problem is that I have never played IceWind Dale so I wouldn't know much about the game. I didn't think it would be coming out anytime soon though.
