View Full Version : Diablo 2 freezes on me...not even MS can help me!

Hello

Sometime after loading WinME (like about 2 weeks after), D2 and most of my other D3D programs began freezing while playing. I can play D2 for about 30 minutes, sometimes 5 minutes before it freezes. MS said to reinstall WinME which A) didn't help the D3D problem and B) screwed up my internet connection. I had to do a format/reinstall. Still, I'm having the same problem. My specs are:

Athlon 700
256 megs of ram
30gig hd @ 7200
32 meg TNT2 M64
50x generic cdrom

Nothing is overclock or tweaked...any suggestions? I know I should get a newer card...but do you think it's the card that's doing that?

Thank you,

Jonathan

If all your D3D programs keep freezing on you, the most likely than not it is a video card problem. Make sure you have the latest video drivers for your video card.

Here is the direct URL to NVidia's Detonator3 download page: http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/htmlmedia/detonator3.html

If this doesn't work, you may wanna try other detonator drivers.
6.xx Detonator 3's (http://zoiah.m3dzone.com/HTML/reference/detonator/6.html)
5.xx Detonator 2's (http://zoiah.m3dzone.com/HTML/reference/detonator/5.html)

I am assuming that your whole computer was bought directly from a store or a manufacturer? You might wanna check the computer manufacturer's website and get the latest updates for your video card, as well as other components of your computer.

Post back your progress...

I've used all sorts of drivers and experience the same thing. From official to beta, but with no luck. Currently I am using 6.34.

Well, it was an online store that I bought it from and have had no problems up until just a few weeks ago (got the computer in March 2000). I have an FIC SD-11 motherboard. Checking on their website, there's really nothing I would need as far as flashing my bios. I have no clue as to if I need to flash my tnt card's bios or if that's even possible.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

Here's some things to check if you haven't yet:

Update your AMD AGP miniport driver. 4.71 is what you want. It's on this page. www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/ (http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/)

Update your VIA southbridge drivers from www.viatech.com (http://www.viatech.com) The 4 in 1 update should only install the drivers you need for the southbridge.

If you have a SB live card that's not new(Like the 5.1 series of SB Live cards) then you should download Liveware 3.0 for Windows ME. There has been a lot of problems with the older drivers and Windows ME so try updating them if you haven't already.
www.soundblaster.com/liveware/ (http://www.soundblaster.com/liveware/)

Try disabling Super Bypass in your CMOS. Some programs that are sensitive don't like Super Bypass enabled.

Try those suggestions one at a time in order and see if they help. If you're still having trouble, post back and we'll offer some more help and look into other causes.
