Really depends ... if you want fast paced, mindless action, go Q3 .. if you want better maps and game types, go UT.

I've played Q3 on Dreamcast and UT i've played with bots.
UT requires much more strategy than Q3. Q3 is just running around shooting at anything you see.
They both seem to be worth buy in my eyes hehe

Unreal Tournament is better. It's bigger and meaner. Looks better too.
Not to mention it has one SWEET sniper rifle.

F.A.K.K.2 is a beautiful game (including the lucious character..hehe) and I'd rate it higher than those 2 if it wasn't such a short game. You can beat it in a day if you're hardcore.

CS Blows. Realism in games sucks. That's what real life is for. I want my games to be FUN.

From what I've played, TFC and CS are much better than UT. I haven't played much Q3 but I think it would be better.

I'm gonna have to go for Q3 over UT. I've played both extensively and I've found UT to be far less stable than Q3, John Carmack has always been ahead of everyone for engine design, the Unreal engine has some nice touches but I love eye candy so Q3 wins. Who wants to think about things during a deathmatch? surely the aim is to annihilate and humiliate your opponents. Anyone can use a sniper rifle zoomed in from 10 miles away, but doing a rocketjump right in front of someone under pressure to get out of trouble actually takes some skill. I think that as products straight out of the box, UT just gets the nod but Q3 is all about being flexible and open for change. Who cares if there isn't a domination mode built in, I had to wait a whole week before someone had written one. Ahh what the hell, buy both. UT has recently been re-released at a budget price and Q3 isn't gonna break the bank either.

I've only played Q3 on Dreamcast online. I'm gonna buy the game soon for PC though. UT is rather fun, but I'm still in that phase where it hasn't gotten old yet.

I think Quake 3 arena is better because you dont have to use alot of stratagy just be a good shot.....but unreal turniment is a fun game too.

q3 just doesn't give me that mindless action feel though.
Quake 2 owns 'em both hands own, perfect blend of strategy action and on some maps you don't NEED to rocket jump (well some of us anyways)

No I need to Rocket Jump :D I love maps that you have to jump far and rocket jump....I hate the grafix in Quake II.I have it for 64 and ive played it on pc at EOT's....to hard to control.

I have both, but I like UT over Q3 for these reasons.
-the maps are much better
-more variety of play.
-I love the dual weapon modes.
-Capture the flag just rocks
-Sniper rifle and head shoots.
-just as stable as Q3 (on my system anyway)
-bots are a little better in the AI dept.

I'd definitely have to go with UT. I don't know about all of you, but dying as soon as I spawn is not my idea of fun.
It seems that there are quite a few UT players here. Don't suppose anyone has a server where we could all meet up?

thing with UT is we all like something different.
I only enjoy UT in CTF on a few maps, the rest of it is just boring.

UT is the kind of game you'll get bored of but go back to.
Q3 is the kind of game you'll get bored of and go back to for about 2days, then your bored again.
Q3 has lots of mods and conversions
UT has a lots of mutators you can combine and is coming out with a lot of conversions recently. My current favorites are Forward Edge Battle Arena, Strike Force, and Unrealfortress. though FEBA needs to get some more online players. Strike Force is a CS clone that's getting lots of players quickly(latest patch rules), and UnrealFortress is a TFC clone with better sentries(team mates can upgrade them and add features).
Unreal Tournament has better maps as mentioned before
Quake 3 has...The only map i liked from Q3 was this 1 map from Jail Break.
UT has better weapons. What would you rather? A rocket laucher that shoots 1 whole rocket, or a rocket launcher that can charge up and launch multiple rockets. Would you rather a railgun, or a sniper rifle that will let you zoom in on your opponent for the kill.
Q3 may be more stable, but no way is it better than UT.

For me the only UT worth playing is a mod for Q3 called Urban Terror! It's a lot like CounterStrike, but with a Quake 3 feel to it.
Check it out at http://www.urbanterror.net/ if you have Q3. If you don't have it download the demo like MK says *cough cough* and try it out. Demos can show you how gameplay is in a game. They won't be able to let you know the replay value of a game simply because all of the levels aren't in there.

Ive played both, I own both, they both suck hardcore
Counterstrike and Tribes 2 are THE FPS games for a true gamer. They take more skill than mindless rockets, grenades, and easy to use sniper rifles (UT). They have more options, more in depth team play (Dont EVEN try to argue with those half assed 'team' modes for Q3 and UT), and they both have bigger online communitys than Q3 and UT. I dont care how good an engine is, if the game on top of it sucks, its not worth buying and thats the case with UT and Q3. I got a copy of UT for free and bought Q3 for the DBZ mod which will never come out it appears, so I wasted 35 bucks. oh well, I have T2 to keep me company.
