Exclamation Why The Price?

Howcome the XBox 360 costs $400, but a PC of the same power would cost over $1,000? Is XBox just easier to mass produce?

Re: Why The Price?

Very few PCs are exactly the same. All Xbox systems are exactly the same. With a platform standard, it's easier to produce the hardware, and easier to write the software. That translates to considerably less issues with things like hardware failure/replacement, technical support, and general troubleshooting. Blah, blah, blah, lots more implications. End result, cheaper than a PC.

Re: Why The Price?

X-Box 360 comes with only a 20 GB Hard Disk (if you get the $400 version with one). Plus, it lacks several other key components such as extra PCI slots, ... you get the idea. It is a little behind PCs as far as specs go, and they only put into it what they absolutely need.

Acer Aspire 3000 Laptop
15.4" WXGA LCD at 1280 x 800
SiS M760GX Socket 754 Chipset
Mobile AMD Sempron OCed 2.0 GHz
Patriot 2 x 1 GB PC2700 CL2 RAM
Hitachi 80 GB 4200 RPM ATA/100 HD
Pioneer 24x/8x/4x CD/DVD±RW DL
SiS Mirage 330 128 MB 8x AGP IGP
Broadcom AirForce 802.11a/g mini PCI

Re: Why The Price?

well $400 is good, here in New Zealand consoles new usually are $999RRP to start then come down $700 then abt $100 a month or so after that, then usually sit $399 until about 3 Xmas's, then finally go $199 when it becomes the predecessor.

Secondly the price compared to a PC, GPU's r used i agree but 360 doesnt have support for s/w such as full web software, office, server options etc etc. I think of consoles now as gaming and media consoles, e.g XBox 1.1-1.6 with XBMC. This feature was picked up on by m$ using MCE/Media Connect and so on. I've tried various ways to connect the 360 to a PC but you gotta have MCE, not even opensource MCE similarities.

The key to Microsoft is: Use only our software and hardware, it is uncompatible otherwise, we provide the best, all procedures must be within law, third parties and EULA (XP's EULA able to pretty much virtually control and own your PC) are our first ammendent. This is the reason people hack M$ XB bioses and the like. M$ is a greddy corporation, but then again so are Apple when it came to ITunes, IPod, ICast etc the Apple Co. said it wouldnt enter the music biz in an agreement with Apple Records back in the day now look at the battle in court.

It's all about the Benjamins and the other president's head's, no matter what country you live in, the USA is the world dictator.

Re: Why The Price?

pcs are used for many things, so more has to be put into them, whereas xbox's are just for gaming.

if they were the same price would you have something u can word processes, go on sites like this, and gaming, or something just for gaming, what would you choose?
