Playstation2 controller issue

I have recently had a problem with my slimline PS2 where if I plug in any 2 controllers at the same time, then start up a game, the menus in the game just autoscroll as if the Down button on the D-pad is being held down. I have now tried it with 3 different controllers in different combinations and whenever I plug in 2 or more (when I plug in a seperate multitap) it just scrolls through the menus until one of the controllers is removed. It's fine when there's just one controller.

Is it time to replace the console or does anyone know an easy way to repair this?

Re: Playstation2 controller issue

thanks for the suggestion, alas it didn't work.

They're old controllers, ones I've always used with it. If I use either one on it's own it works. Even just turning it one without a game in, taking it to the menu, I get no response and neither light comes on. I put a game in and it's OK up to the menu, when both lights come on and it just autoscrolls. Even does it if I plug in the second controller when the menu's already up. only have 2 controllers to try though, is it possible it may be worth getting/borrowing another?

Re: Playstation2 controller issue

It's always worth a shot, but I'm guessing there's something messed up with the actual ports. If you know your way around the insides, you could pop it open and perhaps scrap a new port off an older system. That particular part, if I remember correctly, is interchangeable. I even think the cable connecting it to the mainboard is solderless.

Re: Playstation2 controller issue

try the controllers on another ps2 and see if its the system or the controllers.. and vice versa try a new controller on your ps2..
