Gateway is great
My gateway comps are great. I have one that is 7 years old and it has absolutely no problems. Also my new one is great. No problems... What are other peoples opinions

Since this seems to be a "rave", I'll move you over to "rant and rave" forum darkknight1223 .

as with any other tool, a computer should be the best one for the job. if you just need a basic hammer to pound a few nails, you buy a cheap hammer. if youre doing construction, you buy a nail gun.
gateway is fine for surfing, emailing, and word processing. it will indeed last you a long time for that purpose. however, if you require more out of a computer for music or video editing, graphics, gaming, etc., then gateway is a poor choice due to its proprietary parts. it all depends on what youre using it for.

I believe you are "raving" about Gateway no? That is why I put it here, because you are giving them rave reviews.
*rave (rv)
v. raved, rav·ing, raves
v. intr.
To speak wildly, irrationally, or incoherently.
To roar; rage: The storm raved along the coast.
To speak or write with wild enthusiasm: Critics raved about the new play.
To attend a rave.

i don't really like gateway, but that is based on (1) bad experience. my parents had a gateway comp. that bit the dust a while back. it was less than 2 years old. i would not buy a gateway but that's just my opinion.

hmm....
Seems appropriate for Consumer Reports/Complaints. Maybe you should've moved it there instead of Rants and Raves.

well, since the mobo and bios are both proprietary parts, it could be anything. if you replace your mobo, youll have to buy a new case. replacing the case and keeping the mobo is virtually impossible. you might have trouble upgrading the cpu, you might not. ditto with your hard drive or usb and firewire components. i would hope that installing something simple as a cdrw wouldnt be a problem, but you never know.
basically, gateway makes hammers. some very nice ones, but theyre still hammers. if you need a nailgun, a hammer wont do. if you dont need a nailgun, buy the hammer.
this site is geared towards heavy users of comps, not casual users, so we generally assume that a low end product is not best suited to forum readers needs.

Forgive the pun but I think redwench hit the nail right on the head with the hammer(nail gun) so to speak.
In general I dislike computers which have proprietary hardware installed and motherboards with integrated graphics cards.
A lot of these computers have minimum spec'd components like a Power supply just barely adequate for the equipment installed.

Gateway will be in the way once you need to trouble shoot problems. From my experience, I have a hard time moving around in the cases and upgrading anything is a hassle. But if its your first computer, i dont think its too bad of a thing.

Just wondering, cause so far I replaced the cdrw/hd/ps/video card/more. No problems. Moving areound the case is extremely simple. Best of all, everything is snap so you need no screws. And for the motherboard, I dont know if I can or cannot replace it, but by the time my motherboard is middle class... Im just guna buy a new comp and turn this into a server. 1 question... What is the standard size for motherboard? Oh and the computer came with integrated and agp. Why is it bad for the comp to come with integrated... What if your video card explodes... Then you will have no way seeing whats going on in your computer until you get a new video card
Why does everyone hate cows? lol
