Post There's an Xbox coming my way...

Right now until September 30th speakeasy.net is having promotion in which, if you buy there gamer package dsl you get a free Xbox or PS2. And since I don't need a PS2 I got an Xbox, for free! The first game I will get is definitely Halo. After that I will probably buy a controller S. I'm not sure if I'll get Sega GT 2002 or not... I will probably rent it and see if I like it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what games or accesories I should get? I am definitely looking forward to games coming out later like Halo 2, Perfect dark Zero, other Rare games probably, and other games I'm not thinking of or don't know of yet.

Bum deal. That DSL is a ripoff. You pay a $225 hardware fee, not sure how much is refundable, not to meantion their 608/128 (down/up, in kbps) dsl package is $60 a month, and their 1.5/384 is $90 a month. I was looking into it myself, but it's really a lot cheaper to get a better DSL connection through your phone company and buy a console for $150.

Hmmmm, me and spider have been discussing this on bnet ... have you already signed up? If you haven't yet, make sure you read the fine print on that offer, as well as any "hidden" charges you may get ...

First of all, make sure there are no minimum period contracts to sign up for ... the $59.95 basic DSL is still pretty steep considering the speed. And the hardware fee is still $225 ... sure there is a $225 rebate but the question is will you get it immediately or will it take the usual 3-6 months before you get that rebate?

And most of all, if you don't intend to stay with Speakeasy DSL and just plan on getting the free Xbox deal, and then cancelling the service after 26 days (yeah, it's the first thing that comes into anyone's mind when they see this deal), this is written at the end of this page:

Is there a specific period of time I have to have service with Speakeasy?
We require all broadband customers retain service for 12 months from the date of order completion, as reported by the vendor. Those customers canceling after 72 hours of order placement or outside of any completion grace period are financially responsible for all associated fees as defined by our Terms of Service.

And of course, this part at the very end of the TOS:

$300 Disconnection Fee if your broadband service is disconnected or terminated after your Activation Date and prior to the end of your initial 12-month or extended service term with a specific order. DSL circuits disconnected within 25 days of Activation will not be subject to a Disconnection Fee.

Not discouraging ya here ... I just think that a deal that's too good to be true probably is

That speak easy deal doesnt look like the console is free at all.

And actually for me it's IDSL and a lot slower. And I think the monthly fee was going to be 89.95. This is what that chart was for me:

Gamer IDSL 144/144 DSL (C)
Includes
2 IP Address $ 5.90 Free!
1 10 MB Webquota $ 2.95 Free!
8 Speakeasy Email Account $ 23.60 Free!
1 Shell Account $ 5.00 Free!
1 Unlimited Dial-up Account $ 19.95 Free!
Monthly Charges
1 Gamer IDSL 144/144 DSL (C) $ 89.95
Rebates/Promotions
1 Speakeasy $150 SDSL/IDSL Rebate #2523 $ 150.00
Installation
1 Setup Fee $ 225.00
1 Hardware Fee $ 359.00*
*plus tax
Total Monthly Service $89.95

And this is half the price of what I used to have to pay a month for the same thing! So, you're saying that even if I use the rebate it would be a ripoff?

That's a horrible deal. $90 a month for 144/144? $585 for setup and hardware?

That's crazy.

There really isn't anything better for where I live. Except for maybe satellite but I heard it was bad for gaming which I do a lot of.

Your better off with dial-up than paying that price.

Well, it's going to be on 7-8 computers so it's like it's just for my computer or one person.
