It may be simple if you are using one computer plugged directly into the DSL modem.
If you're on a home network with a router, things get more complicated.
Sorry, teikyo30, but it's true. SBC Yahoo DSL support is awful, and their service isn't that great.
I've got Charter cable right now. It's blindingly fast and stable, and their support techs have been bend-over-backwards helpful the two times we had problems that were out of our control. I'd highly recommend it.

Charter?
I would never go with cable over dsl unless they could give me a guarantee in writing that no matter what my connection speed would never drop due to volume of users, and from what I understand about cable, that isn't a promise they can make
As to your issues with a home network, I haven't tried this yet, but I would imagine if you use a wireless network, it shouldn't be all that difficult to set up. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but then I don't have a second computer. I'm not sure exactly if you have to set up the internet connection on the second computer or if it just works off the connection it has to the gateway, but even if you do have to set up the internet on the 2nd computer, can't you just copy the settings from the first?
The main reason I use Yahoo, besides the great service I've received, is because I use IRC a lot and I like that Yahoo doesn't turn over user names to groups like the RIAA.

Dont ever use SBC Phone support, use the SBC forums at DSLReports.com, the 3 guys there can do more for you than waiting on the phone for 3 hours. SBC is about to outsource their tier 1 tech support to india too, so most likely soon you will be getting someone who doesnt speak english very well(or their accent is too heavy to understand them). I remember when a friend of mine called Dell tech once to get a hard drive replacement, we had to call 4 times til we got someone we could understand.
If you were to get SBC, since your paying $60 now, get the Expert Plus package(If you qualify). They jsut recently extended the service range for it to 9500 feet. Its $44.95 a month(+$3.xx FUSF Fee) on a one year contract and the modem is free. Its advertised speed is 1500-3000/384 but its actually 6000/608. They didnt make a new 3000 speed profile for it, they just put everyone on 6000.
Here is what speeds I get with expert plus(Im 5600ft away):

connecting to SBC DSL through a router
It's really quite simple running a router with SBC
Normally, when you're running a router they would refer you over to the manufacturer.
Here's what you need to get from the SBC DSL technical support:
1. determine if you're subscribed into a static or dynamic IP subscription
2. determine if you're on PPPoE
3. confirm if you're using the correct email address which they call the userid, and the password.
Usually, a subscriber will be on a Dynamic IP, uses the username & password to authenticate into the system
When you're running a network.. usually running the workstation in "auto-obtain" IP address will do.
_________
And yes, you can do away with the SBC software package if you're running XP because XP has a built in PPPoE engine on it.
If you're running lower OS like win9x, win2k, NT4, WinMe you will certainly need a PPPoE software which the cd has.
Correct me if I'm wrong....
What is bundled in the SBC package is the program called enternet300. This software is what you need to connect.
Just create the right profile in the enternet300 and connect.
That simple.
here's how to find it in the cd (version 4.0):
SBC DSL CD> setup folder> efficient>NoReboot>set.exe

exception
SBC also came up with a modem that has a PPPoE firmware in it.
It is what they call Speedstream 5100b.
how wud you know you have 1?
simply look at the modem and try to look for the internet light.
5 lights in all... power, DSL, enet, internet and act
if you dont have it? chances are, you'll be needing the enternet300 program if you're not running XP.
______
other SBC provided modem that has the PPPoE firmware in them...
2wire also has a PPPoE firmware in it and could function as a router.... and cayman netopia of course.....

SBC Yahoo DSL problems
I'm having the same problem as Madman. The connection stays up for a few minutes and then drops. Till it drops all computers are able to access the internet. I'm using SMC7004VWBR and have configured PPPoE as required by SBC.
Thanks

Solved the problem i had with excessive lack of lcp echo frames. I logged into the speedstream 5100 modem (default 192.168.0.1) and set it to work in PPBridge mode. Voila! Problem solved. Thanks to everyone for the responses

I can connect just fine. Faster, in fact. Everything on the internet loads faster. IE works just as well as Netscape. I don't have a problem with Java-based programs going all wonky anymore. I boot a heck of a lot quicker. I don't get annoying little popup "reminders" of stuff I didn't need to know about from SBC Yahoo anymore.
It's excellent.
Did I mention that the SBC techs told me I absolutely positively NEEDED the Connection Manager software?

Hi,,,, How do you kill the Connection Manager? I have WinXP, and just got SBC/DSL last week. Everything was fine till I installed all the junk. I have 4 PC's hooked thru Linksys BEFW1154 Wireless Access Point Router. No java trubble on ANY of the other PC's. The main PC is XP. the second WinME, 3rd 98SE, and 4th XP laptop (wireless). I get the X's on ANY part of Yahoo! and few other sites. This site, loads fine, I see every picture! This is so frustrating!
Can you help?
Thanks soooooooo much

Re: SBC Yahoo DSL
OhYeah!, I forgot probably the most important thing. Because I wanted wireless DSL in my home, they sent me a Equipment than what I've been reading about here. My hardware is the 2WIRE 1000 SO, I don't think that alot of what I'm reading will help much, but I tell you......some of it does. Thanks in Advance
