Thumbs down Western Digital RMA's

Western Digital has got to have THE WORST RMA system. Ever.

I sent in my hard drive, quite sometime ago, nearly a week and a half ago. Now, they update RMA status on they're site, and it says "The information can take up to 3 days to be updated from the date we receive the drive"

Great. a week and a half later, from the recieve date (According to fedex tracking) its still not updating, so I emailed them. They now say 9-11 days from recieval. Now, 11 days is going to put it EXACTLY on the same date the RMA expires.

The worst part is, the hard drive I sent to them is no longer in stock on thier online store (WD 100gb special edition), niether is the size above it. However the 80gb is.

Not to be picky, but 80gb just isn't enough to store everything I want to, I have atleast 92gb of crap I need to save, and I don't feel like spending 25$ onf 3dvd RW's, that only save 15gb or so, all together.

You see, they have this policy where they can send you a similar drive to the one you sent in if they are unable to repair it. It doesn't say how similar. Anyway, I tihnk I'm just ranting anyway.

I'll post again in a few days when they acctually get around to updating the friggin RMA status.

Hmmm...well I would expect a 100Gb WD back...not an 80Gb WD HD. If they gave me an 80 for my 100, I would see them in court.

This is lovely.
They no longer produce 100gb Special Edition HD's, its now only 80GB and 120GB drives.

They had damn well better send me a Special edition 100gb, or 120gb, otherwise they're going to get a phonecall.

Re: Western Digital RMA's

Its a requirement they send back a drive with similar specifications or better. It's been a while (1-2 years) since I RMA'd a WD but last time I did their support team were slow and it took about 3 weeks to a month to get my RMA back. Unfortunately the trick with them is to be patient.

Sad part is, this was a server HD I was RMAing. You'd think they'd work a little faster for customers who are running SCSI equipment as its more expensive (and is sold at a higher margin, netting them more money) and have an immediate need to get their stuff fixed quickly.

Sadly, WD doesn't seem fond of their customers anymore.

Computers? Too damn many of 'em. So much so that when they are saying "nice rack" they are talking 'bout my wife AND my servers. :P
