Similar news-- its impossible to get a gamecube broadband adaptor. I dont know the exact number, but Nintendo shipped a limted quantity just to test the waters. They were sold out in a matter of days. They're going for over $75 on ebay.

Maybe this online gaming thing is going to take off...

Let's hope online gaming doesn't kill single-player though. There are many of us who just don't have the resources to go broadband at the moment - which in my opinion and experience on the PC is the only way to play.

If the Xbox Live kits have sold so many units, how come I see at least 20 of them in every major home entertainment/appliance store I go to? I mean, this is the St. Louis metro area I'm talking about here, and I just don't see those numbers being reported accurately. Maybe Xbox Live is popular everywhere but here. Actually, I don't know anyone locally who even owns an XBOx. The only one was a Gamestop store manager who got his for free direct from Microsoft.

Sure as hell can't find them here in Boise... I had mine pre-ordered but didn't make it in the initial run.

Thats ok, I've been wearing out my thumbs playing Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance the last 4 days.

I think some areas do way better in sales than others. Probably broadband availability and price are the big factors. Also I think the site is referring to the first wave of shipments which probably also includes preorders.

Xbox live is fun, but there needs to be more than just shooters for it to stay big. Som more co-op based games and RPG's could really be livened up with it when they come out. Too much trash talking going on in PvP and it gets old after a while.

Then you have people who host who leave the game early just because they aren't winning or are recieving a lot of kills. None of the stats get saved when that happens so it's their way of preserving a better win/loss record. Lame.

I'll take old fashioned multiplayer over online play any day.

Nothing beats playing a round of goldeney and having everyone you're playin with in the same room. Sure, your screen is tiny in splitscreen games, but the fun more than makes up for it.

I actually only have 2 games that are Live compatible right now. Whacked! and NHL2k3. I bought it just for for playing NHL2k3 in the online leagues.

Playing Halo through XBConnect also works well.

The same thing happened with the PS2 Net Adaptor. In fact, its still hard to find it, even 2 months later. Initial shipment was 150,000. After that they have been shipping 25,000 - 50,000 a week, up to somewhere around 350,000+ total. Its up to about Its just a phase though. This is about as far as it will get.

I play Twisted Metal: Black Online once in a while. I probably wouldnt have even bought the net adaptor, but seeing as how I got that free with it, I couldnt pass that deal up.

I had a broadband adapter for my dreamcast when I had it. Paid 45 for the adapter and sold it later on e-bay for $250 because they were so hard to find.

Yeah silly me decided to pre-order one before they had announced the Dreamcast's demise. Only crappy thing was that there was only like 3-4 games that supported it, and I only had 1 of them. I was hoping PSO version 2 would, but alas it did not.

So it was no big deal when I sold it. I used to money to buy a PS2 instead. But then again I sold that too...
