Bill Gates no longer the world's richest man

Ingvar Kamprad, the Swede who founded furniture retail chain IKEA, has overtaken Microsoft's Bill Gates as the world's richest man, Swedish TV news reported on Sunday.

Citing next week's edition of the Swedish business weekly Veckans Affarer, public service SVT2 television said Kamprad, 77, has a personal fortune of 400 billion crowns ($53 billion).

Gates's fortune is put at $47 billion, according to the latest list of the world's rich in U.S. Forbes magazine, SVT2 said.

The article also says that the main reason why Kamprad has overtaken Gates is because of the slide of the dollar against other currencies.

So, let's all go out and buy a few Microsoft products to get Bill back on top again.

I was expecting someone to overtake him someday, but the guy who founded IKEA?? Thats just...weird.

Didnt Bill have like $67 billion a few years ago? Where did that $20 billion go? Xbox?

Poor Gates. He only has 47 billion dollars? That is hardly enough to get by on these days.

he funds huge charities, one completely by himself. thats actually where most of his "spending" goes. take the man out of microsoft and hes actually a decent human being

anyway, billions to charities + falling dollar = #2

Most ppl dont know that Bill Gates' forune is based on a lot of things, primarily the value of his shares in microsoft . Also, the value of the dollar, as stated above, is another decideng factor.

In any case he's wealthy enough as it is, he gives 90 percent of his income to charity...top that!

I had no idea that Gates was so philanthropic. Does he really contribute 90% of his income to charity?

I have a completely different view of him now...

Is he a Democrat?

I doubt he has any political or religious affiliations! In any case yeah, he does give roughly 90% of his income to charity. Its a simple rule...the richer you are, the less the percentage of your income you actually need or spend.

I don't think it is typical of rich people to give much to charity.

If it was there would be nowhere near the suffering and starvation in the world. If they all were even half as generous as Gates I doubt there would be any starvation in the world.

I've known lots of rich people and very few are interested in anything except getting richer.

I do personally know one rich person who is extremely generous and kind tho'.

when youre that rich, getting richer has no meaning. he couldnt spend his fortune if he tried.
anyway, hes been heavily funding (and running) charities since he stepped aside at MS. mainly vaccinations/health in 3rd world countries, i believe.

Not sure what he is, but he's probably getting a huge break on his taxes for donating so much money.

Personally, I have no problem with Gates, and I applaud him for donating his money to charity...but he's missing one. It's called the "Spec Needs a New Truck Fund."

Actually some of the most wealthiest Americans started donating massive amounts of money once they started reaching top. Names escape me, but the major holder of Standard Oil, and also the holder of the steel industry both gave huge amounts of money later in their lives.
