SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Chipmaker Intel Corp. INTC.O, seeking to broaden its presence in the market for wireless equipment, on Monday introduced two new chips designed to bring higher performance and longer battery life to handheld devices.
Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, said the PXA250 and PXA210 processors will enable handheld computers and wireless phones to deliver music, movies and games.
Intel said products using its new chips are expected to be available to consumers by the mid-year. Customers for the chips include Casio Computer Co. 6952.T, Hewlett-Packard Co. HWP.N, NEC Corp. 6701.T, Toshiba Corp. 6502.T and Compaq, all of which make handheld devices.
